If it’s raining, there’s very little chance you’ll find a safe shelter in the forest. And if you can’t hide completely, you can at least delay the inevitable for a little while. For example, you can choose the most branched and spreading tree and stand under it for a while. Then, you will not immediately get soaked to the skin.
Why a tent in the forest is necessary?
Of course, some of you can walk in the forest for a few minutes. But this is the case for those who live or work close to the forest area. In most cases, however, we are talking about longer hikes. Active types of recreation attract an increasing number of our compatriots, which is very good. After all, the problem of obesity is becoming more and more serious.
But a tent is essential for a long hike. In its folded state, it does not take up much space and is not very heavy. In case of rain or the need to spend the night, a tent will create ideal conditions, especially if you have something to entertain yourself. Books, board games, and especially smartphones can do the trick. Game lovers will find plenty of entertainment that can be interesting and useful.
Smartphones also offer many advantages for sports fans. If you have a fast, stable internet connection, you can watch a broadcast or a recording of a match. Today, you can find almost any kind of broadcast in the US, including cricket or other exotic sports. Along with watching, you can place bets from bookmaker apps. Today, it is pretty easy to find them, as there are sites with bookmaker reviews where the best applications are presented. However, all this is possible only if you have the internet.
What to do if you do not have a tent
Do not hide from a downpour in animal burrows, hollow trees, or buried roots. Such places are dangerous because they often shelter lizards, snakes, and other indigenous forest inhabitants. And meeting them face to face in a confined space, believe me, will not end well.
Standing under a tree and realizing that soon you will be soaked through, do not feel sorry for yourself and think how unlucky you are. Pull yourself together and start planning where you will dry your clothes and shoes. Remember that such an adventure can become a serious illness, up to pneumonia, even if it’s summer outside.
One of the best and most proven ways is to build a fire. Take off your clothes and slightly dry the wet things. Pay special attention to outerwear: T-shirts, T-shirts, and shirts. Outerwear is more dense, and therefore, it will take a long time to dry it. If it’s not too cold outside, you can just put them in a backpack and dry them at home.
When it rains, make sure your matches don’t get wet. Even if you hide them deep under your clothes, they can absorb moisture and become damp. When hiking in the woods, always keep at least one box of matches in a plastic bag.
Making a fire in the forest after a downpour will not be easy, especially if you have no experience in survival in camping conditions. What should I use to build a fire? If you have dry fuel or paper in your backpack – great. But what if you don’t? Take a look at what trees are growing around you. It’s great if you find birch bark. Birch bark burns well even after rain; you just need to remove the rainwater. You will indeed find thin, dry sticks and needles in a coniferous forest. Look near trunks, under roots, in hollow trees—all those places where the raindrops have not reached.
Find a suitable place for the fire. It should be an open area without trees. After all, after a downpour, drops will drip off branches and leaves for a long time, preventing you from starting a fire.
In a couple of hours it is unlikely that you will be able to completely dry your clothes. But you will at least remove most of the moisture from them, which means you will not be so cold and wet. Be sure to cheer yourself up with a mug of hot tea made on the fire.
